Problem Statement
One major cause of drone flyaway is the “wind”. The weather will likely be the biggest cause for a drone flyaway, and the primary culprit will be the wind. If your drone is unfortunate enough to get caught in a wind channel, which can occur at any elevation due to changes in terrain, you’ll need to act quickly to increase your chances of recovery.
Also, another common cause for a drone flyaway is battery failure. This could be due to a faulty battery that loses power too quickly, or flying out too far without enough power to fly back.
A faulty firmware update on your drone or battery can cause a flyaway as well. In some cases, the drone may signal the battery is out of power, even though it’s charged. In that case, the drone may attempt to automatically land in an unexpected area.
The list goes on and on, for this reason I propose a stand alone easy to mount GPS tracking system for UAV’s.
Proposed Solution
A stand-alone GPS tracking system which can be easily mounted unto the UAV, with a desktop application at the ground station to provide a Realtime feed back of GPS telemetry transmitted from the device mounted unto the UAV.
How it works
The system comprises of two devices “DTx” and “DRx”, which basically means drone transmitter and receiver respectively.
This technology provides users with a wide range of data transmission without the need of cellular network and internet connectivity for a radius coverage of 6.6 km.
Advantages and what makes the system stand out
What makes this particular tracking system stands out is ability to store the tracked data and provide up to the last recorded data. This is necessary because even if DTx is to loose connection probably when drone is out of site and out of range, personals can quickly move to the last recorded location on the DRx, which I believe would be of great help in finding the lost drone.
Also a unique feature being included to the device is the GSM module, this is to allows users send SMS request at any time to device requesting for the device's current location.
Security
Security wise the system is secure since it use AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) for all data being transmitted and also the modulation technique used is the CSS (chirp spread spectrum)
