Seamless Weather Access System (SWAS)

The Seamless Weather Access System (SWAS) has completed a second rollout of the system for the Meteorological Service Department of the Ghana Airforce Base, Takoradi. This is part of the collaboration between UMaT and the Ghana Airforce Base, Takoradi in the area of research. The Seamless Weather Access System provides an alternative and a faster way of communicating important information from the Metrological Service Department to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Unit and the Operations Unit. This new development will make important information readily available to the ATC unit to aid landing and the taking off of aircrafts.

The team was led by Associate Prof. Anthony Simons to install the first version of the Seamless Weather Access System to complete the first rollout of the project on 6th September, 2019. For continual progress in research with industry, an improved version of the system was developed and a test installation was done on 16th of April, 2021.

This collaboration, which is in line with the vision of the University to partner industry to meet industry needs, is one of the many projects the University will undertake with the Base to help provide relevant expertise and improve some old systems still in operation.

SQN LDR Selma Selby and FLT LT Nsowah are the key Airforce personnel leading the Airforce collaboration with UMaT under the supervision of AIR CDRE Eric Agyen-Frempong.
