The control tower and met station of the Ghana Air Force (GAF) Sekondi-Takoradi base since its commencement on the first of March 1961 have an archaic system of communication “The Tube”. In an attempt to safely land aeroplanes that fly through the GAF tarmac/runway/base, personnel of many disciplines must coordinate a dozen activities to ensure that all workers are constantly alert to the relied system of communication; The Tube.

The Tube System, as the name insinuates comprises of a tube, complimented with a rope that delivers and receives sheets of papers containing information which aids in the safe landing of aeroplanes. Usually, the said sheet of paper is clipped to the end of the rope followed by a knock on the tube, to signal the other end (i.e. the control tower or the met station) of impending information. Due to this, constant attention is to be paid to the tube for feedback and the corresponding action enforced.

A modern approach that will return the Ghana Airforce, to its former tech-savvy glory, has been invented; The Sendit System. Fortified with high security against interferences and external intruders from retrieving the data, The Sendit Software comprises of a password-protected login ID for each user to access a more defined aeroplane information sheet from the comfort of their workspaces. In addition, The Sendit Software comes with a database which helps in retrieving of past data.

Advantages

The advantages of The Sendit System include;

  1. internet connection is not a prerequisite;

  2. the system is not frequency-based, hence it is uninterruptible by the frequencies floating within the Air Force atmosphere; and

  3. the system keeps track of all details (sender and receiver’s name, time and date and also the message itself) which makes tracking of incidents easy.

Application

The system is currently employed at the Takoradi Base Ghana Air force and the personnel are greatly happy to have a user-friendly and simple system which has made work easier, faster, simple and more secure.
